Find What Grounds You

What are your goals in the new year?

What matters to you most?

My challenge to you right now – Find ten minutes today to sit down and focus on just one thing – and have that thing be you.

Ask yourself,  “What matters most?”

It could be one of many things. Maybe you know the answer to that question right away.

Maybe it’s your family, or your health or getting into shape.

Maybe it’s the project you have been working on.

Chances are that what matters most really isn't your to-do list with those five things you can’t do right this minute. That list isn’t what matters most.

Perhaps what matters the most is just to be able to do the best you can right now. If so, that’s great. You’re not alone. Things can be hard, sure, but this exercise is designed to help you reflect on what matters most so you can refocus. It’s hard to focus when we’re worried about the to–do list. It’s hard to focus when the phone is sitting next to us.

If you took just ten minutes a day to focus on one thing, what would it be? How could just ten minutes help ground you enough to realize the thing that is getting in your way? What is that thing getting in your way? (No, really, right now : Think. What is getting in your way? Do you have it? Do you know what it is? Is that REALLY what’s going on?)

Do you have that thing? Great, continue.

If you don’t, stop. Go take a short walk – without your phone. And then do this exercise again tomorrow and the next day (and the next day, if needed) until you know what’s holding you back.

Changes are, what’s holding you back is you. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it’s almost always the case.

If you got out of your way, what would you do? What obstacle would you get past? How would that feel???

That’s all for today. Let’s do the same thing again tomorrow. In the meantime, you are amazing. You got this. You are here for a reason. What you are able to do matters. Now, go do that thing!
